Bought this tape because my original clear side tape had seen better days. This new tape was decent quality and molded to the shape of my paddle’s edge really well. The paddle I applied it to is a 16mm Double Black Diamond Lightweight. The stickiness of the adhesive was strong yet forgiving if you made a mistake and needed to make adjustments. After completing the install, the edges of the tape held really well and didn’t peel off. The sides of the tape slightly overhangs the sides of the side guards. There were no creases where the tape had been folded in the packaging after install. But the tape lost stars because the whole paddle became noticeably heavier due to the tape thickness. It was so significant that it changed the way I had to swing and my reaction speed slowed down noticeably. The problem lies with the material; it’s a pleather-like feel and is more than twice as thick as clear tape. It’s changed my Double Black Diamond’s characteristics so much that I can’t say I’ll be keeping this tape on for very long. Top spins take twice as much effort to perform, swings take more energy to recover from, and overall reaction speed has slowed down. I gave this 3 stars for the quality of the product from appearance to its ease of application and protection. It’s already survived a few accidental floor scrapes and didn’t take much damage. But due to its negative performance effects, I couldn’t give it more than 3 stars. My feedback is I’d like a scuff resistant and durable side tape that doesn’t easily tear upon floor scrapes but light enough to not significantly change paddle behavior. Hope 6.0 takes this review into consideration.
